Description
Navadhaniyam mixture is a traditional South Indian snack made from a blend of nine different grains and legumes—each chosen for its unique nutritional benefits and symbolic significance. The term “Navadhaniyam” literally means “nine grains,” and the mix typically includes ingredients like chickpeas, green gram, horse gram, black-eyed peas, white beans, field beans, peanuts, roasted gram, and black sesame or lentils.
These grains are soaked, dried, and then deep-fried or roasted until crisp. Once prepared, they’re tossed with salt, red chili powder, asafoetida (hing), and fried curry leaves to create a crunchy, spicy, and protein-rich snack. The result is a nutty, flavorful mixture that’s not only satisfying but also packed with fiber, plant-based protein, and essential minerals.
