Raising Krishna's story at home

Janmashtami marks the midnight when Lord Krishna was born in Mathura - the moment darkness gave way and dharma returned. Across India, the night builds slowly: a day of fasting, an idol bathed in milk and ghee, a swing dressed for the newborn deity, and finally, just after midnight, the first taste of makhan and mishri that breaks the fast.

In the UK, that midnight can fall on a school night. The temple queue is longer, the commute is real, and it would be easy to let the year pass without it. But the rituals were never really about getting everything right - they were about a child watching a parent light a diya, and later lighting one themselves.

This Janmashtami, Aha Bazaar wants to make it easier to keep that going. Whether it's your child helping dress little Krishna, learning their first shloka, or simply staying up to see the clock strike midnight - these are the small moments that carry a festival from one generation to the next. We've put together everything you need to celebrate properly, at home, together.
