Made out of Sastraic requirements for preparing kumkuma by mixing right proportions of turmeric and other natural substances in right proportions to produce the dark red colour and mixed with the natural extract of essence, to bring out the rich aroma. Wearing Kumkuma on the forehead symbolises prosperity and lakshmi kataksham. Performing Archana to the female deities – Sri Lakshmi, Sri Durga and Sri Saraswathi brings blessings in abundance. Sharing Kumkuma to sumangalis, sukanyas during Navaratri and during auspicious occasions is a tradition that is being followed for year.
