Nalakaram podi is a podi that is unique to the Telugu cuisine as it is a style of podi that means business in terms of the spices used. Nalakaram literally translates to ‘Black chilly powder’ in Telugu. It is similar to Red chilly podi or Idli podi yet different in terms of looks, texture and flavour. It is made using red chilli, cumin seeds, black gram dal, chana dal, tamarind, curry leaves & garlic. It is a wonderful side dish for tiffen such as idli, upma & doasas while it can also be eaten with rice and ghee.
